Grants of up to $3,000 to New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming nonprofit museums for projects to preserve and care for artifacts and collections. Grant funds may be used for archival supplies, acquisition, and services for the purposes of collections care or conservation. Priority is given to smaller museums. Additionally, preference will be given to museums with 501 (c)(3) status and permanent collections on exhibit to the public.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant size typically ranges from $1000 – $3,000, with $3,000 as the maximum amount awarded.

Term of Contract:

Funds must be used within 12 months.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

• The museum must be located in Colorado, Wyoming, or New Mexico.
• The museum must have current 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
• The museum must be open to the public on a regular basis.
• It is preferred that the museum have permanent collections on exhibit.
• Organization must have a budget equal to or less than $750,000.

Preference will go to museums with 501 (c)(3) status and permanent collections on exhibit to the public.

Examples of groups typically not eligible for funding include galleries, children’s museums without collections, science museums without collections, corporate collections, and museums without 501(c)(3) status.

• Routine building maintenance
• Events
• Exhibitions
• Education
• Salaries
• General operating support
• Building expansions (unless for conservation labs)
• Endowments (except for conservation)
• Marketing or public relations
• Scholarships
• Travel

At this time, the grant will not cover collections management expenses such as computers, digitizing projects, or collections photography.

Applications open June 27, 2022. You will need to register on The Denver Foundation’s grant application portal before completing your online application.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. MST on August 8.

Please expect notification of grant awards or declinations in mid-December. Funds will be received by the end of the application calendar year for projects that will take place in the following calendar year.
